2020 COYOTES COACHING STAFF
Castaic's Head Baseball Coach is Darrell Davis. He has lived in Santa Clarita for over 34 years. He graduated from Saugus High School in 1989, where he played baseball and football.
Coach Davis played baseball at the College of the Canyons and one year at Cal State Northridge. He currently is a Sergeant II for the Los Angeles Police Department. Coach Davis has two children. One of his sons, Devin graduated from Valencia High School High in 2015 and is currently playing in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Angels. Coach Davis's other son Darren, is currently a senior at Saugus High School and is playing on the Varsity Baseball team.
He has been coaching for 25 years. He has coached several travel ball teams and he has been successful at several levels. Coach Davis has also coached the Santa Clarita Warrior Football program for 15 years. He enjoys coaching and mentoring young adults. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and an Associates Degree in Physical Education.
Coach Davis is delighted to be a Castaic Coyote!!!!!
Coach Tanner Koonce graduated from William S. Hart High School in 2009, where he played both baseball and football. He was also a duel sport athlete at Glendale Community College, before knee injuries led him to a career in coaching.
Since retiring from the game, Coach Koonce served as Head Frosh Baseball Coach and assistant JV football Coach for Golden Valley High School from 2012-2013 before assuming the head freshman coaching position at Valencia High School from 2013-2016. He is a veteran club baseball coach as well, having coached teams for the SCV Dirtbags, ASAP Baseball Program, and the I-5 Bambinos, which he coached to a Cooperstown championship.
In his free time he loves watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and watching his brother Riyan who is a College baseball player in Arkansas. We are so excited and fortunate to have Coach Koonce on staff as well as working full time at Castaic!
JV ASSISTANT COACH
PITCHER / CATCHER COACH
Coach Josue Iniguez currently serves as pitching coach for the Coyotes. For the past two years he helped Golden Valley's JV and varsity teams to their best seasons in school history.
Iniguez began his pitching career at Hart High School. At Pasadena City College, he made the All-Star team his sophomore year. After PCC he attended Kansas State University under Head Coach Brad Hill.
Coach Iniguez played several years of pro ball in the independent leagues, including stints with the Rio Grande White Wings and Ruidoso Osos. He also played AA ball in Puerto Rico until retirement. He returned to Santa Clarita to begin his coaching career. His great knowledge of pitching will bring us many wins in the upcoming years.
PITCHER / CATCHER COACH
Coach David begins his 2nd year coaching at the high school level. He is a graduate of Littlerock High School where he played varsity baseball. He went on to start a career in Broadcast Television as Video Technician. He attended the College of the Canyons and became an EMT. This led him to become a volunteer firefighter/EMT at La Habra Heights Fire Department.
He has over 10 years of coaching at the youth level. He has a has passion for coaching and his family. Coach David strives to learn more on a professional level, understanding multiple skills and mental approaches to the game. He wants to share and apply these attributes our team.
He also started The Ambassadors Athletics Club, a team in the Santa Clarita Valley. The team gives opportunities to athletes not on the travel ball circuit to compete at a higher level.
We are excited to have Coach David on board to help our infielders. His expertise will help mold our team into becoming not only great baseball players but more importantly great young men.
Coach Rudy Velazquez is 43 years old and has lived in Santa Clarita for 15 years. He is currently a Lieutenant for the Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons.
He graduated from Grant High School in 1994 where he played JV and Varsity baseball. He continued his baseball career while attending Valley College but due to injuries his baseball advancement ended. He began coaching JV and Varsity baseball at Grant High School for 10 years.
Coach Velazquez enjoys training, teaching, and preparing young adults for higher levels of opportunities and advancements. He believes in discipline, respectfulness, valuing experiences and one another on and off the baseball field.
Coach Kyle begins his 1st year coaching at the high school level. He will be the lead Freshmen Coach.
Kyle is a Saugus Alumni, where he played Football and Baseball. He went on to play baseball at South Mountain Community College (Phoenix, AZ) and Clack College (Vancouver, Wa) before injuries lead him to pursue coaching.
He began coaching the SCV BLUES, the SOCAL HALOS and the SANTA PAULA HALOS tournament teams from 13u youth level to college level.
We are excited to have Coach Kyle on board to develop our Freshmen.
Coach Devin Davis graduated from Valencia High School in 2015, where he was a four year varsity baseball player.
He was drafted out of high school by the Tampa Bay Rays. He is currently playing for the Los Angeles Angels Organization.
Coach Devin is excited to volunteer at Castaic and share his knowledge, skill and ability with the team.
